Three tips for healing: love, rest, breathe

Thank you for being here. I want to share three tips for healing with you, inspired by a student who came to a recent live, zoom class with a mild covid infection. Scroll down for more details. The pictures are screenshots from the recorded class, found in Spontaneous Yoga Membership.

I think these tips apply to many types of healing, especially mild upper respiratory infections. It sounds cheesey, but I used them to help heal from long covid. I want to know what your experience is. Do you think these work? What do you do to heal? Comment below and let me know.

Make sure to rest, hydrate, and stay up to date with your medical providers. This blog and my classes are not substitutes for medical advice or care.

Dr. Liz, a white non binary person, looks lovingly towards the camera. They have glasses, curly hair pulled back, and a gray turtleneck on.

Love: be loving towards yourself

Oftentimes we talk badly to ourselves when we can't do what we're used to doing.

Use a curious, loving attention with your body.

Do your best to be kind to yourself always, but especially when you're healing.

A white person with curly hair and glasses moves their hips gently on the floor. A white and grey cat rubs up against their hip.

Rest: keep energy in the tank for healing

To relieve aches and pains gently move joints while seated or lying down.

Stop and rest before you're too tired. Keep energy in the tank for healing.

Use a recorded class, that way you can always come back and finish it later. Find a class you can do in bed or on the floor.

A person with a gray sweater indicates their back bottom ribcage with their hands. Their hands are on the bottom of the ribcage next to the spine.

Breathe: expand your back bottom rib cage

Find your back bottom ribcage with your hands. You might be able to reach all the way around to your spine. You might not. Both are great. Find the bottom of your ribs as far back as is right for you.

Expand that area when you breathe in.

Make your breath slow and even at your own pace.

This calms your body down and puts you into a healing state. It also

  • Stretches your lungs

  • Moves your ribs

  • Optimizes carbon dioxide and oxygen balance in your blood
