What kind of yoga is the most researched?

A shot of Dr. Liz at home in the forest. You can see their head and shoulders. They're white with dark blonde curly hair, glasses, and they're wearing a blue collared canvas shirt. They're smiling at the camera. They are in front of thick trees.

A student asked a great question the other day: what kind of yoga is the most researched? Answer, none of them! We have a lot of different studies of different kinds of yoga compared to things that are not yoga: a control group, therapy, reading a book. (See my peer reviewed references here.)

Spoiler alert: yoga is good. 😆 It balances the nervous system and reduces the effects of stress, benefiting every system in the body. Yoga can relieve symptoms of chronic pain and disease because it helps people access a healing state.

Here's the thing…

We have almost no research comparing yoga to yoga or different postures to each other. We do have some research looking at yoga with heat vs. yoga at room temperature, but not enough to draw strong conclusions. We don't, yet, know what yoga best practices are according to science.

So, we don’t know what kind of yoga is best for everybody, BUT...

🙋 I do have an educated hunch.

I have a hunch that students know innately how to heal themselves, especially if they have expert guidance. I offer my expertise, a lot of choice, and the students and I co create meditation, movement, and yoga practices that are healing.

I make accessing a healing state top priority in my work. I call it bliss because in that state we feel our best, perform our best, and have the ability to shift our perspective.

I don't know why you're suffering. I don't know what in particular will make you vibrantly well. I do know a LOT about healing, from both a scientific and yogic perspective. I also know how to help you access your own bodily wisdom and give you the courage to follow it.

It's not about a particular technique or achieving anything. Anyone can do this. It's about moving from your heart.

❤️ That’s why I call what I do Spontaneous Yoga.
